Hi guys, in this new activity I will talk about there is and there are.
USE:
We use "there is" and "there are" to express the existence of something, just as we do in Spanish with the verb "haber".
RULES:
-There is is used for non-countable nouns and singular, including the articles a/an.
-There are is used for countable nouns and plural.
Example:
Grammar in affirmative sentences:
THERE + IS/ARE+ A/AN+ COMPLEMENT.
Example:
1. There is a store
2. There is a cute kitty
3. In the kitchen there is an apple
4. Under the table there is a pencil
5. There is only one key
6. There are two pillows
7. There are some shoe stores
8. There are two cute boys at the party
9. In the room there are two remote controls
10. In the piggy bank there are a lot of coins
Grammar in negative sentences
THERE + IS/ARE + NO+ COMPLEMENT
Example:
1. There is no chicken in the kitchen
2. There is nothing to eat
3. There is no meat
4. There is no pillow in the room
5. There is no bank near your house
6. There are no stores
7. There are no pencils on the table
8. There are no two bookstores in the city
9. There are no watermelons in the fruit bowl
10. There are no tomatoes for salad
Grammar in interrogative sentences:
IS/ARE+THERE+ COMPLEMENT+?
Example
1. Is there a park there?
2. Is there a movie theater downtown?
3. Is there a shoe store in the mall?
4. Is there a black motorcycle?
5. Is there sugar in the kitchen?
6. Are there pink dresses?
7. Are there green apples?

Note 1: "Some" is used for a certain and small number of things or people. It is only used in affirmative sentences with plural nouns.
Note 2: "Any" is often used in negative sentences and questions with plural nouns.
